To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Support Native Communities
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Maintaining balance within systems helps reduce the need for additional resources to keep things in balance.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Spend Time Outside
Rachel Carson said that we need the beauty and mysteries of the natural world for our spiritual and emotional development. Does that ring true for you? What are the implications for a culture that spends most of its time indoors?

A disconnect from our naturl or biological selves and a lack of interest in maintaining healthy natural systems.

Cooper enjoyed his walk today. We saw several dogs, lots of Halloween decorations and chatted with a BDS Inspector.

    Simplicity De-Clutter My Home
How can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?

That is a difficult question for someone who has many craft hobbies that need various raw materials. To keep the collections manageable I am learning to evaluate the projects more, and estimate time required for completion. But honestly having the raw materials to make things is a happy place. I have less problems with other stuff.

I like walking my dog, especially out hiking or on the beach.

The tomatoes are coming to an end. I will miss tomato salad until next year.

It's really starting to get chilly, and with that East Wind, gardening is not nearly as much fun.

I notice that things that seem really interesting or desirable in the moment feel less so later. Now I leave things in my cart for 24 hours. If I can remember to go back the next day then maybe it is important enough to buy. Usually it isn't. But putting it in the cart makes me happy enough in the moment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Where are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?

My nearest body of water is the Columbia river. It gets runoff from a huge watershed basin.  The Willamette River empties into it.
