Impact investing will help me become more aware of the societal opportunities that exist and align with my values, and give me a chance to actively participate (through investments, regularly following the impact reports, etc.) in these efforts.

Incarceration rates disproportionally affect Black Americans due to systemic racism, which has existed in the United States since its inception. The ongoing disproportionate imprisonment of Black Americans (and other BIPOC) - often for less offensive crimes - disrupts economic development, consumes financial resources, and continues to fuel systemic racism across the United States.

I found about Momentum Enterprises and the MERGE family of enterprises through researching local recycling depots. They comprise three social enterprises (Second Chance Recycling, Furnish Office & Home and Rebuild Resources).  MERGE operates these three sustainable, social enterprise businesses that empower and provide transitional employment and job training for adults with significant barriers to typical employment. Many of the transitional trainees are in recovery from substance abuse, many have felony convictions, most have limited work history, and virtually all are living in poverty. Trainees learn marketable job and technical skills as well as how to resolve conflicts, communicate professionally, maintain a positive attitude and make a true contribution in the workplace.

I'm motivated to work toward my Ecochallenge goals! I look forward to making a difference, especially when I feel so helpless much of the time during COVID.
