PSU Brandywine Earth 100 Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Whole Foods Diet
Michael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?

It healthier for us humans to eat real food rather then processed fake food
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

A common human activity I see that wastes water is leaving the sink running while brushing your teeth and not shutting it off. We can improve water systems by stopping littering and start throwing away our trash in trash and recycle can instead of throwing it in random places
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

This does not surprise me because I feel like we in America don't realize how lucky we have it opposed to other countries. The money could be used for other necessities like clothing rather then in the trash.

I chose the actions I did because those actions are the ones that I am most likely too, or actions that I already practice on daily basis like water conservation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Adjust the Thermostat
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

I can unplug my charging cables or turn off my monitors so it doesn't use up electricity.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Use Public Transit
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and just 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

Yes because if they spend more on transportation, people might actually use it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

After you determined your carbon footprint, did you see what different choices you can make in order to reduce it?

I can stop turning on my lights during daytime
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

I used to drink 4 water bottles a day and now I don't waste any water bottles by using my reusable water bottle. I save a lot of money by not spending on water that much anymore and I will continue to do this daily.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Drive Less
How has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

I enjoyed cutting down how much gas I waste when driving daily. I saved a good amount of money by only driving to places I need to and will definitely continue doing it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

I enjoyed walking 10 minutes a day very much! My dogs loved it as well! It was a great exercise and I will continue to do it daily.
