Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

We learned from Eric Sala's book The Nature of Nature that humans and our domesticated meat food sources make up 96% of the terrestrial mammals on the planet. That means that ALL the other mammals on earth, the bears and chipmunks and wallabies and prairie dogs and tigers and mice are ONLY 4%.

Our rising demand for meat to eat is hurting the diversity of animal life on our planet and every vegetarian or vegan meal that we choose to cook/order/reheat makes a difference!

I love ECOCHALLENGE! I hope to use it at the classroom level and the personal level.
