Incorporating less screen time has been pretty awesome. I'm still in the habit of wanting to google a question I have right away - we have been enjoying the luxury of getting immediate google answers for a long time. With that I started to write down any pressing questions I have (like how to fertile my winter garden) and use that list to learn what I need/want during my allotted screen time.

Eating more vegetarian wasnt one if my action goals for this challenge,  but something I've been incorporating more. The past few days my household has been enjoying all vegetarian meals!

Still incorporating less screen time I to my day and its really helping to combat stress. I think iys because I'm multitasking less.  Also, today I read a Vox article about the shocking health disparities amongst people of color that Covid-19 simply underscored (again). Research has found that there is greater air pollution in brown communities which leads to long term damage of the heart and respiratory system that has lead to asthma and the high amount of covid deaths among black/brown people. Really, going forward one thing we must do is always make the connections of environmental racism to racial health disparities

Yeah It's insane, several of the conferences I've seen hit home that message. Logical, minorities and the poor would be most affected by any disaster, but seeing it play out in real time and the unfortunate overlap between the two categories, makes a whole different impression than just a logical assumptions.

Today reading more about non-binary people, I just wanted to share the main points : Being non binary is not new in the world, that transgender people are not automatically non binary, that being non-binary does not equate to  being inter sexual. Lastly, at this point in history we should never assume someone's gender!!

    Simplicity Less Screen Time
What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

I noticed my mind was much more clear than usual with less screen time. It wasnt hard at all, I just read a book and tidied my house.

I have  been preparing vegetarian meals for my family.  Inspired by the 80/20 style of eating - 80% plant based and 20% meat for the enviroment!

I just answered my 'Reflection Question' for my action track.  After giving some thought my answer underscored that in the U.S, or at least in Portland, OR that regardless of wealth any person can be detrimentally affected by environmental irresponsibility.  Globally we see how environmental degradation ultimately damages poor and marginalized communities.  In many U.S cities multitudes of rich, middle class, and poor are getting sick from the levels of toxins that surround us.  Cancer, asthma, severe allergies etc occur regardless of status.

So many of the poor are more affected, because living situations are less expensive in less desirable places like next to a freeway or a factory. :..(
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Who is most affected by environmental degradation and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

In my immediate community I would have to say that people who have been most affected by environmental irresponsibility are the ones that have experienced illness (cancer, asthma, autoimmune) from the toxins that surround us.  This includes rich and poor people.
