2020 is ... challenging. Taking a moment each day to reflect on and be thankful for the positives prevents me from falling into the despair spiral

Having an active little one this time around has led to lots of playful time. Turning everyday items or tasks into games is both equally humbling and entertaining.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Less Screen Time
What did you notice in implementing this challenge? Was it hard to choose other activities over screen time? How did you decide to spend your time?

The first couple of days of this challenge was very difficult for me. Most recreational activities I was doing at the end of a long day still led to either being on the phone, tablet or tv, so shifting back to a good book really led me to escape for a time being. I would say it significantly lowered my stress from all the doom and gloom that has been 2020. Ended going through 5-6 new books. Challenge well spent!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Energy Invite a Friend to Calculate the Carbon Footprint of their Household
What kinds of discussions did you have, or are you hoping to have with friends about climate change?

Using the calculator gave them something concrete to look to in a monetary value per month. Carbon footprint an a very abstract concept to most people so it's hard to quantify it in everyday terms. By framing it like a bill, that you could potentially get rid of, it opens the door for some meaningful change.

Here's another challenge at its end! That really flew by this year, hope everyone got the most out of it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Compost Food Waste
New to composting? Be sure to check out the action resource links to learn tips and more about it. As you transition from throwing food away to composting, what do you notice about how much you are tossing? How will you use your compost once it is ready?

It's been an eye opening experience to try composting. The amount of food waste I produce was always disguised in the trash, but now it's obvious how much food waste I produce. Now that I'm aware, I can act accordingly to reduce my waste, or find more things to compost and less things to throw in the trash.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Meditate
What would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?

I wish I'd followed through on my meditation challenge more! There's always going to be something else to do, read, see, etc. and it's easy to let those things take over your mind. I'll be meditating today in hopes of making it a more daily habit.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

    Andrew Milner 10/28/2020 11:39 AM
These daily walks outside ended up being the most beneficial to me during these pandemic times, especially due to the potential for staying in one place all day while working from home.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

This made me realize how unregulated my sleep schedule is. A better nightly routine would probably do wonders for my sleep .
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

I have been particularly intrigued by visible mending. The idea is that once you rip, tear, or wear through a piece of clothing, instead of replacing it you find a way to fix the damage in a beautiful or intentional way. You can make the repair contrast with the clothing, or make it blend in. This creates a story for your clothes, kind of like a cool scar!
