Team Headwaters Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • This has been so fun and enlightening. Big thanks to my team for coming along for the ride! I hope some of the resources will still be available to browse through...they were great! Looking forward to the next EcoChallenge.

Team - well I started late, had a lag, then came back...! It's been thought provoking and has made me realize where I'd like to focus some of my energies...enjoying the gratitude journaling as well.

Action Track: Healing and Renewal Family Game Hour
How does being playful with others enrich your life?

I love being with my family - during COVID - we make extra effort to be active outside several times a week even during crummy weather. We have family games night once a week, sometimes also sit down together to watch something interesting or goofy on TV. I've done similar things with family and friends who live away. It's something to look forward to. Gets you thinking about others and their needs and also brings you back to the simplest pleasures...laughter, sharing a good story, joke, memory etc.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

I need to turn off the news earlier! I tend to sleep well but sometimes it is difficult to make that shift from "busy/turning off". I try to settle myself at a reasonable hour, read a book instead of having a device with a screen, even if I can only get through a few pages, it's helpful....and sometimes I do my gratutide journaling before bed...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Action Track: Healing and Renewal Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

It keeps you in the moment, allows you to focus, shut out distractions and make the shift to focus on positivity...no matter the time of day when you choose to practice...
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Research Impact Investing
How might impact investing help you better live your values?

Impact investing can give us reassurance that social, environmental and governance expectations are part of the screening process for fund managers, giving peace of mind that we are not inadvertently investing in companies with questionable practices or that run counter to our values on climate action and social justice. It's also a way of breaking down the divide between our pursuit of building personal wealth through investment and giving back through charitable giving. We can do both. It's a 2-in-1 win-win!
The dream would be that entities that do good for society can be as successful, mainstream and financially viable as traditional commercial, profit-driven entities. Not seen as a net cost (societal benefits notwithstanding), drawing only on the generous and government assistance.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Support Native Communities
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

It's only because of greed, superiority, entitlement and conquest that we took more than we needed, and ignored the needs of other life forms we share the planet with, that we have the environmental and social crises we are in now. If we'd listened and learned from Indigenous teachers 200 years ago there wouldn't even be a question of whether our lifestyles are sustainable now. Indigenous traditional ways of living on this planet had it right all along - balance, relationship, connectedness/oneness, nature and gratitude. Seems sad that so many of us are just learning this now and calling it "woke".

When I walk, I experience the sounds, smells and sights more clearly.  I also get to see my neighbours and check in with them.
